What is love?

Day 5. My definition of love.

love [luhv]-noun
1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.

That is what the dictionary told me.
I guess that is true.
But I think there is so much more to love than just that.
People who love each other will never endanger one another's happiness in exchange for temporary personal pleasure.
I think that is why us kids in high school have a hard time falling in love for reals.
We are selfish. And in true love, that word does not exist.
But I do have a few thoughts on what I think love really is about.

Love is not always about being together. It is wanting the person you love to be happy. Even if that means not being with them. And sometimes that is just what happens. You may love them, but you might not be the best thing for them right now. I think that is what the majority of us need to realize. If you truly love someone, you wont force anything upon them. You will do whatever you can to make them happy. Which in some cases, means letting them find love elsewhere.

Love is knowing that you love them, and they love you. The knowledge of others doesn't matter. You won't need to show affection in public just to prove you love each other. You won't need to prove anyone how much you love each other. You'll just know. And that is all that matters.

Love is wanting to be with them through thick and thin. Through rich and poor. Through sickness and health. Through children and diapers and throw up and family vacations and crying and tantrums. You love them no matter what. With true love there is no "except when.." You love them always.

There are so many other little things that love means.
I could write an entire blog on just that.
But I think there is one thing that is more important than any of this other stuff.
Love is forever.
It never ends. If you truly and deeply are in love, it will last forever and ever.

"Cinderella walked on broken glass. Sleeping beauty let a whole lifetime pass. Belle fell in love with a hideous beast. Jasmine married a common thief. Ariel walked on land for love and life. Snow White barely escaped a knife. It was all about blood, sweat and tears. Because love means facing your biggest fears."
